          PADI ADVANCED OPEN WATER COURSE

What is a PADI Advanced Open Water Course?

The Advanced Open Water Course builds upon the knowledge gained in the OW Course.  The course consists of 5 dives, two core dives, these are navigation and deep diving and 3 elective dives, which each concentrate on skills that you would like to specialise in such as boat diving, wreck diving, night diving, photography etc.

The course gives you the opportunity to gain some more experience under the direct supervision of our instructors and also learn techniques from their years of diving knowledge.

What is required for the course?

You must be a PADI Open Water diver, or equivalent with another training organisation.

You must be at least 12 years of age

Once you have signed up for the course, we will supply you with the PADI Crew Pack to start your study. The manual that is included in the crew pack, is designed to walk you through the learning process and there are regular quizzes to ensure that you have grasped the concepts.

What to expect from the course?

Once you have completed the home study and knowledge reviews, the course is run over one weekend, either at the sea or in one of the inland training lakes, depending on the weather. You will complete the two 'core' dives, which are Deep and Navigation and then the 3 dives which you can choose from a selection.

Once you have passed this course, you will be certified to dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters for the full Advanced Open Water Course and 21 meters for the Junior Advanced Open Water Course.

More importantly you will have gained valuable experience in a number of more specialised diving areas, under the instruction of professionals.

What Next?

Each of your dives counts towards the first dive in that speciality course, complete that speciality and you are certified as a specialist in that area. Complete five specialities and the Rescue Diver Course and you can apply to become a Master Scuba Diver, the highest non professional diving qualification available from PADI.

The other course that might interest you would be the Rescue Diver Course.  This course develops your self awareness and teaches you awareness for others.  The course is designed to make you think about all aspects of your diving and help you pre-empt situations by being more aware of potential problems and the solutions.  If problems do occur this course will teach you how to deal with them effectively.
